FSU College of Medicine
The FSU College of Medicine's Educational Pipeline program fosters a dynamic community of practice for students passionate about STEM, medicine, and health-related fields. It uniquely supports, engages, and inspires premedical students committed to serving populations with the greatest need. Its comprehensive infrastructure provides a network of support systems for students in grades 8th through college, including a graduate-level Bridge to Clinical Medicine Biomedical Master’s Program. The educational services provided at all levels are multidimensional and focused in four areas designed to develop the total student: sociocultural, academic, leadership & professional development, and experiential learning.
The pre-college program consists of three components: in-school, after-school, and a summer institute mini-medical residential camp. The in-school program offers SSTRIDE advanced science courses at each grade level. Premedical, graduate, and medical students serve as teaching assistants, tutors, and mentors at every program level. This component also provides hands-on learning, grade monitoring, academic intervention, professional development, educational trips, and standardized test prep. Please note that the in-school programs are only offered in Okaloosa and Collier Counties. The after-school program offers virtual tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities in a supervised environment.
The FSU College of Medicine Summer Institute (SI) is a weeklong residential program for students (high school rising juniors and seniors) committed to pursuing a medical career. This program also introduces students to a variety of clinical settings, provides information about financial aid and pre-health advising, exposes students to college life, gives students a perspective on the life of a medical student, exposes students to certain aspects of the medical school curriculum through interaction with faculty and participation in faculty-led presentations about medical topics, and inspires students to pursue careers in health-care professions.
The College level programs, SSTRIDE Connect and USSTRIDE are designed to help premedical students navigate the complexities of a premedical track. Our students develop through social engagement, academic involvement (study groups, individualized tutoring, an MCAT Prep course, and MCAT Tutoring), leadership (executive board, tutor, mentor, and peer group leader positions), professional development (workshops, training, and certifications), and experiential learning (clinical training, volunteer opportunities, and service projects).
